A Day in the death of Joe Egg it a timelessly beautiful play by Peter Nichols. It follows Brian and Sheila as they try to care for their daughter who has severe cerebral palsy while also trying to maintain their marriage. They have found ways of coping using humour and filling their home with plants, pets and all manner of life. With the arrival of Freddie and Pam in the second act a mirror is held up to the ways they have dealt with their situation and the addition of Brian’s mother drives Bri to finally try and take some kind of control. At times hilarious at other deeply painful this is a bitter-sweet exploration of the lives, loves and longings of the two care givers who have nearly given up.
