BLT seems to have gone viral after an article in The Sun on Monday 23rd December! We were delighted to have been branded “woke”’ for our decision to supply content warnings for all our productions including our most recent festive epic – Nicholas Nickleby.
We’d like to correct the suggestion that we presented a watered-down or “vanilla” version of this Dicken’s classic: our performance of David Edgar’s two-part adaptation remained faithful to the original, including scenes depicting sexual assault, child abuse, and suicide.
We stand firm in our belief that the views held in some stories written in different times were wrong then and are wrong now. But rather than erase these stories, we will continue to present them in their original form. This honours the playwrights, the stories and the past. It also encourages conversation and debate.
Content warnings are important for those who are anxious about seeing our shows or want to avoid certain topics, which makes BLT a safe and inclusive space for our community.
The warnings are available on our website for those who choose to read them.
Don’t forget to book now for our 2025 season (content warnings coming soon) which we are delighted to announce includes Agatha Christie’s ‘A Mirror Crack’d (warning…will contain at least one murder) and The Full Monty (nudity guaranteed!).
