Announcing Our Autumn Season at BLT

Alys Always by Lucina Coxan, directed by Paul Ackroyd Thursday November 4 to Saturday November 13 (10 performances including Sunday 7 November) This is a new play first performed at the Bridge Theatre in March 2019.  We may be the first amateur group to perform it.  It is based upon Harriet Lane’s acclaimed novel of the same name.  AUDITIONS: 12-30 pm on Sunday 20 June at BLT. Spanning a twenty year period from 1949, this true story is based on the dramatization of business letters between Helene Hanff, a young, struggling writer in New York and Frank Doel, the owner of  an antiquarian book store in London. Another 2 opportunities to be in a filmed performance

‘Wilde Wilde Women’ inspired by the plays of Oscar Wilde. As Wilde is in the public domain, a project which takes scenes from his plays celebrating in particular his fantastic female characters (though his male characters will be included) would film well as they are quite static and rely upon the sparkling language. Could you be in a filmed performance?

We are looking at small cast plays and scenes from plays which we could film in a similar way to the BBC’s ‘Staged’ with David Tennant and Martin Sheen. Of course we won’t have the BBC’s highly sophisticated production team, but we are investing in some green screen equipment which we can lend to participants to film themselves at home and then we can add an appropriate background. We have specifically chosen plays that can be staged in a way which maintains social distancing  and uses the minimum of props.
