Appropriate

By Branden Jacob-Jenkins

Directed by Joshua George Lawson

An amateur production by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd

Gathering to clear their late father’s estate, the Lafayette family expect arguments over possessions and old grievances. What they don’t expect is a discovery that forces them to confront uncomfortable truths about their family’s past and the stories they’ve always told themselves. As tempers fray and loyalties fracture, every assumption is called into question.

Winner of the 2024 Tony Award for Best Revival, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ Appropriate is a thrilling blend of razor-sharp comedy and psychological drama. Unflinching, funny and brilliantly written, it examines family, history and inherited responsibility with extraordinary intelligence, creating a play that is as gripping as any thriller while leaving audiences with plenty to discuss afterwards.
