‘I’ve poured two hundred thousand cups of tea, made four thousand six hundred medium-sized quiches and personally baked two tons of light crust pastry. And for what?’
Set in a quintessentially English vicarage garden, Richard Everett’s Entertaining Angels is a bitter-sweet comedy concerning a recently-widowed vicar’s wife, Grace who has spent a lifetime on her best behaviour. Now, after the death of her husband Bardolph, she can enjoy the new-found freedom of being able to do and say exactly what she wants. However, she is also about to lose her home to the new, incoming parish priest who just happens to be a woman. To complicate matters further, her eccentric missionary sister, Ruth, has recently returned from Africa with some disturbing revelations that force Grace the confront the truth of her marriage. Skeletons tumble from cupboards and long-hidden secrets are revealed in this sharp-edged and funny play filled with probing wit and touching pathos in equal measure.
