Labour of Love

By James Graham Directed by Julie Binysh Labour MP David cares about modernisation and “electability”… his constituency agent, Jean Whittaker, cares about principles and her community.  The relationship between them is compellingly real, built on long-years of bickering and self-knowledge.  Set away from the Westminster bubble in the party’s traditional northern heartlands, this is a clash of philosophy, culture and class against the backdrop of the Labour Party over 25 years as it moves from Kinnock through Blair into Corbyn… and beyond?  Startlingly funny, peppered with one liners and jokes but with a depth that changes the play from a political farce into a deeply felt and deeply moving depiction of the way that caring for someone changes a life. This production contains language which may not be suitable for younger viewers.  Parents/carers are encouraged to visit our content warnings page to make an informed decision before deciding whether to book.
‘As its title suggests, this is both a history of the Labour party and a love story. It is a heartfelt political analysis and a laugh-till-you-cry West End comedy. It is a balancing act of considerable sophistication and skill – and it is absolutely wonderful.’   WhatsOnstage ‘This political rom-com is an inventive hybrid of Much Ado, Merrily We Roll Along and Yes Minister.’   The Standard
