“Kiss me darling, before your body rots and worms pop in and out of your eye sockets.”
Wild passions and even wilder personalities set the stage for this classic, hilarious battle of the sexes.
Completely by chance, two newly married couples occupy adjoining honeymoon suites in the same hotel in Deauville, France. Serenaded by a distant orchestra, Sibyl is besotted with her charming, charismatic new husband, Elyot. Next door, Victor worships and adores his bride, the vivacious and sophisticated Amanda. The cocktails flow and the sea shimmers in the romantic moonlight as the newlyweds prepare for the evening ahead. But when Amanda overhears a familiar voice singing a long-forgotten song, she realises, to her horror, the groom next door is none other than her ex-husband! The subsequent sparks ignite an explosive reunion that has devastating consequences for everyone.
Last staged at BLT in 1976, Noël Coward’s celebrated razor sharp wit and quick-fire dialogue continue to delight audiences in Private Lives, his most popular and enduring stage comedy.
BLT’s last production of a Coward play, Blithe Spirit in 2016, was that year’s best-seller and tickets sold out very quickly, so please ensure you book ASAP.
