Radium Girls
By D W Gregory
Directed by Pauline Armour, Jessica-Ann Jenner and Robert O’Neill
An amateur production by arrangement with Dramatic Publishing (DPC)
Set in the 1920’s, Radium Girls tells the true story of the courageous women who unwittingly risked their lives painting luminous watch dials for the U.S. Radium Corporation. Hailed as a ‘miracle cure’, radium was the latest scientific marvel—until its deadly effects began to emerge. When the dial painters fell gravely ill, their fight for justice became a landmark battle that changed labour laws forever.
D W Gregory’s fast-paced and poignant drama weaves together 38 characters in a compelling exploration of greed, power, and the pursuit of health and wealth. At its heart is the enduring strength of ordinary individuals who take on extraordinary odds. Wry, insightful, and deeply human, Radium Girls reminds us of the cost of progress and the importance of standing up for what’s right.
Don’t miss this powerful production, brought to life by our award-winning youth theatre. Radium Girls is a story that resonates as strongly today as it did a century ago—a gripping tale of courage, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of justice.
