The Audience
By Peter Morgan
Directed by Matt Gould
An amateur production by arrangement with Independent Talent Group Ltd
For over sixty years, one conversation took place every week behind closed palace doors. Free from political point-scoring and public scrutiny, Queen Elizabeth II met each of her Prime Ministers, from Winston Churchill onwards. What was said will never be known but Peter Morgan’s compelling drama imagines the wit, wisdom and quiet humanity behind one of Britain’s most enduring constitutional traditions.
By turns funny, touching and insightful, The Audience offers a fascinating portrait of a monarch who remained the one constant while governments, personalities and the nation itself changed around her. Rich in history but driven by character, it’s a beautifully observed play about duty, leadership and the people behind public life.
‘Wonderfully funny… genuinely moving.’   The Daily Telegraph
‘The first surefire, unstoppable hit of the year.’   The Guardian
