The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby (Pts 1 & 2)
By Charles Dickens. Adapted for the stage by David Edgar
Directed by Josh lawson
An amateur production by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Limited
‘The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby: Pts 1 & 2’, by David Elgar, is a two part adaptation of Dickens’ classic novel. First staged by the RSC in 1980, the production was met with critical acclaim and transferred to New York, where it won numerous Tony Awards, including Best Play. It was subsequently recorded and screened by Channel 4, as their first major drama commission, when it returned to London – winning a number of Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Writing.
The play follows Nicholas Nickleby, who must support his mother and sister, after his father’s death leaves the family financially ruined. They journey to London to seek the aid of their only living relative, the wealthy Uncle Ralph. His refusal to support his nephew, leads Nicholas to search for means to provide for his family in a society riddled with corruption, greed and poverty, and to encountering a host of memorable characters.
We are delighted to have secured the rights to both parts of a rarely performed play, heralded by the New York Post as one of ‘the greatest theatrical experiences of our time’. Book early to avoid disappointment!
We will open on Wednesday and alternate Parts 1 and 2 on weekdays. On Saturdays, Part 1 will play as the Matinee at 2:30pm and Part 2 will play in the evening at7:45pm.
